text: Kootenay West is a provincial electoral district in British Columbia, Canada, established by the Electoral Districts Act, 2008. It was first contested in the 2009 general election. The riding is seen as a safe NDP seat; the party has won 12 out of the last 13 elections. Before the NDP victory in 1972, the riding voted consistently for Social Credit. Under the 2021 British Columbia electoral redistribution the riding will be renamed Kootenay-Monashee.
