In some times and places, and in some cases has been used as a dynastic name. Khosrow is the Modern Persian variant. The word ultimately comes from Proto-Iranian *Hu-sravah, itself ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *h₁su- ("good") + *ḱléwos ("fame").
