text: John Stewart was an English-born Australian politician. He was born in Northumberland to estate agent Malcolm Stewart and Elizabeth Scott. He graduated from the Royal Veterinary College at Edinburgh in 1827 and was a professor at the Andersonian University in Glasgow from 1834 to 1840. In 1841 he migrated to Sydney, where he married Sarah Pringle on 1 November 1842; they had four children. He established a practice which he ran until 1852, when he retired to Keira Vale.
