John Shorter Stevens was an American politician and lawyer from North Carolina. Stevens was born in Asheville, North Carolina, on May 30, 1933. He attended Christ School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, as well as its law school. After two years of military service with the United States Army Corps of Engineers, Stevens began practicing law in 1961, and later cofounded the firm Roberts & Stevens via merger. Stevens was a member of the Democratic Party and elected to four term
