text: John Hall Archer, was a Canadian librarian, historian, and civil servant, and the first President of the University of Regina. Born just south of Broadview, Saskatchewan, he was a rural school teacher from 1933 to 1940. During World War II, he served with the Royal Canadian Artillery and was discharged with the rank of captain in 1945. In 1973, he was made an honorary colonel. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1947 and a Master of Arts degree in 1948 from the University of Saskatchewan. I
