Major-General John George Boothby was an English first-class cricketer and British Army officer. The son of The Reverend Brooke Boothby, he was born in June 1824 at Southwell, Nottinghamshire. He was educated at Charterhouse School, after which he attended the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich. He graduated from there as a second lieutenant into the Royal Artillery in June 1844, with promotion to first lieutenant following in April 1846.
