John Atkinson Knauss was an American oceanographer, meteorologist and administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) from 1989 to 1993. Knauss received a Bachelor of Science in meteorology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a Master of Science from University of Michigan in physics, and a Ph.D. in oceanography from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California.
