text: Jean-Baptiste Badeaux was a Canadian official who served as notary for the province of Quebec. Born in Quebec, Badeaux was the ninth of ten children, By age 13, his family was living with an aunt in Trois-Rivières. On 29 October 1764, Badeaux married Marguerite Bolvin, the daughter of wood-carver Gilles Bolvin. They had two sons, one of whom, Joseph Badeaux, also became a notary. In 1767, Badeaux received a commission as a notary for the Trois-Rivières area. He soon gained a strong reputation fo
