text: John "Jack" "Sandman" Carvin was an Irish Gaelic footballer. His championship career with the Meath, Dublin and Louth senior county teams spanned eighteen years from 1898 until 1916. He was a fascinating character described in 1946 by the legendary GAA writer Paddy Mehigan as "Louth’s greatest footballer".
