Ivan I Danilovich Kalita was Prince of Moscow from 1325 and Grand Prince of Vladimir from 1331 until his death in 1340. At the start of his reign, the seat of the Russian Orthodox Church was moved from Vladimir to Moscow, leading to it to become the spiritual center. The policy by Öz Beg Khan of allowing the grand prince to collect tribute from other Russian princes increased Moscow's wealth and allowed Ivan to lay the foundations for Moscow's future as a regional great power.
