text: Ira Wells Wood was an American Republican Party politician who represented New Jersey's 4th congressional district from 1904 to 1913. Walsh was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania on June 19, 1856. He graduated from Princeton College in 1877. He studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1880 and commenced practice in Trenton, New Jersey. In Trenton, he was a member of the city board of education from 1894 to 1896, served in the city council from 1896 to 1900, and was president of the Board of Trade
