Suriname ratified the 2000 UN TIP Protocol in May 2007. In 2008 Suriname was principally a destination and transit country for men, women, and children trafficked transnationally for the purposes of commercial sexual exploitation and forced labor. It was also a source country for underage Surinamese girls, and increasingly boys, trafficked internally for sexual exploitation.
