Hubert Westmoreland was a mechanic that became a car owner in the beginning of NASCAR. His role as a car owner ran from 1949 to 1964. In that time his cars were driven to four first-place finishes. In the 1949 NASCAR Strictly Stock Series inaugural race, Westmoreland was the owner of the car driven by Glenn Dunaway. Dunaway was the initial winner but he was disqualified when it was found that the rear springs had been spread by Westmoreland, a noted bootlegger who had knowledge of improving hand
