text: Eight ships of the Royal Navy have borne the name HMS Spey, after the River Spey, in Scotland: HMS Spey (1814) was a 20-gun sixth rate launched in 1814 and sold in 1822; she then was sold to the New Grenada Patriots of 1821 and became their naval brig Boyacá. She participated in the Battle of Lake Maracaibo, and in 1824 participated in the capture of numerous Spanish vessels, including the Spanish frigate Ceres. In 1826 she was reported to have been laid up. HMS Spey (1827) was a 10-gun Cherokee
