HMS Braithwaite was a Captain-class frigate of the Royal navy during World War II. She was named after Captain Samuel Braithwaite of HMS Kingston, who had an eventful career, taking part in numerous engagements during the 18th century. Originally destined for the US Navy as a turbo-electric (TE) type Buckley-class destroyer escort, Braithwaite was provisionally given the name USS Straub however the delivery was diverted to the Royal Navy before the launch.
