Hilma Swedahl, née Wounsch was a Swedish-American gold prospector and the founder of the Swedish tourist village of Alaska i Strömstad. Hilma Wounsch was born on the island of Syd-Hälsö, Strömstads kommun in Västra Götaland County, Sweden. She was the daughter of a fisher in Bohuslän. During the spring of 1896, she traveled to New York City, where she worked as a domestic. After four years, she left for Alaska and the Klondike Gold Rush.
