Hieria, also known as Heraeum or Heraion (Ἡραῖον), modern Fenerbahçe, was a town of ancient Bithynia and a suburb of Byzantine-era Constantinople. It is prominent in the city's history as the site of an imperial palace. The name derives from Heraion akron, which was given in antiquity to a small promontory on the Asian shore of the Bosporus, opposite Chalcedon. The Emperor Justinian I built a palace here, which included a harbour and a church dedicated to St. Mary. The palace, which survived at
