text: Sir Harold Josiah Finch was a Welsh Labour Party politician born in Barry, Glamorgan, the elder son of Josiah Coleman Finch, who became the Secretary of the Barry branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, and Emmie Finch. He attended Gladstone Road Elementary School in Barry and 'was brought up in a very religious atmosphere'. Finch was a miners' agent in Blackwood after the First World War and was a contemporary of Aneurin Bevan, who he accompanied as a miners' delegate to the Labo
