Halvard Grude Forfang was a Norwegian educator. He was born in Bærum as a son of chemical engineer Einar Forfang (1881–1950) and Agnes Grude (1885–1958). He was a nephew of Karen Grude Koht. His home environment was marked by the norskdom movement; his family was a member of Noregs Mållag. He finished his secondary education at Stabekk Municipal Higher Education School in 1934, and took the cand.philol. degree at the University of Oslo in 1941.
