György Gömöri was a Hungarian-American physician who became famous as a histochemist. Gömöri was born in Budapest on 16 July 1904. He received a degree from the medical faculty of the Pázmány Péter University in 1928. In 1928 he became a pathologist at the 1st Department of Pathology, and in 1932 a surgeon at the 3rd Department of Surgery. In 1938 he went to the United States. First, he worked in a private hospital, but in the same year he became Assistant in Medicine at the University of Chicag
