text: Gustav Gärtner was an Austrian pathologist born in Pardubice, Bohemia. In 1879 he earned his doctorate from the University of Vienna, afterwards working in Vienna as an assistant to Salomon Stricker (1834–1898), and later as an associate professor (1890). In 1918 he became a "full professor" at the University of Vienna. In Vienna he conducted scientific studies of kidney functions, experiments dealing with electrical skin resistance and research involving innervation of vessels of the brain. Als
