The systematic name is D-glucono-1,5-lactone lactonohydrolase. Other names in common use include lactonase, aldonolactonase, glucono-δ-lactonase, and gulonolactonase. This enzyme participates in three metabolic pathways: pentose phosphate pathway, ascorbate and aldarate metabolism, and caprolactam degradation.
