Gertrude Rosenblum, Lady Williams (1897â1983) was an economist and social strategist whose research and writing impacted on the foundation and development of the Welfare State in the United Kingdom from the 1940s. She is considered amongst the earliest women economic historians. Williams was Professor of Social Economics and later Professor Emeritus of Social Economics at the University of London.
