text: Colonel George Strahan was a British army engineer who served in the survey of India and served as Superintendent of the Great Trigonometrical Survey from 1888 to 1894. Strahan was born in Ashurst, Surrey to William Strahan. After studying at Eton he joined the Addiscombe college in 1857. At Addiscombe George showed abilities in mathematics and drawing.
