George Barker Windship, sometimes spelled "Winship", was a Boston physician most noted for his promotion of weight lifting as a route to health and strength and inventing the first adjustable dumbbell and the forerunners of several modern exercise machines. Windship first introduced Weight Training in the United States between 1859 - 1872. He toured with lecturers and exhibitions.
