The systematic name of this enzyme class is 3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoate carboxy-lyase (pyrogallol-forming). Other names in common use include gallic acid decarboxylase and gallate carboxy-lyase. This enzyme participates in benzoate degradation via CoA ligation.
