Trumble was born at Brading on the Isle of Wight to Frederick Hugh Geoffrey Trumble, of The Old House, Haywards Heath, Sussex, and his wife, Ada Catherine, daughter of George Wood Bayldon, of Wakefield, a paper manufacturer from a family of Yorkshire landowners.
