text: Frederick Alers Hankey was an English banker and Conservative politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1885 to 1892. He also played first-class cricket for Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in 1852 and 1853. Hankey was born in London, the son of Thomas Alers Hankey and his wife Elizabeth Green. His father was a banker in the family firm of Hankey & Co. Hankey was educated at Harrow School and played for the cricket first XI against Eton in 1850 and 1851. He then went to Oriel College, Oxford.
