text: Frederick Ochterloney Taylor Hawkes was the fourth Bishop of Kingston. Hawkes was educated at Magdalen College, Oxford and was ordained in 1903. He became a curate at St Mary's Church, Portsea, and then Vicar of Aldershot. In the First World War he was commissioned as a Temporary Chaplain to the Forces in May 1918, and was posted to France attached to the Coldstream Guards. By May 1919, he had been promoted to Senior Chaplain with the Guards Division. A report on him referred to his "excellent w
