Fosco Loredan was a 16th-century Venetian nobleman of the Loredan family known for the murder of his wife Elena Grimani by decapitation, which resulted in an urban legend known as The Ghost of Fosco Loredan. The legend says that, on full moon nights, and when the northern wind blows, the ghost of Fosco Loredan appears over the Grand Canal, holding his wife's head in his hands.
