text: First Lutheran Church of St. Ansgar is a historic church located at 212 N. Main Street in St. Ansgar, Iowa, United States. It was added to the National Register in 1976. St. Ansgar congregation was organized by pioneer Norwegian-American Lutheran minister Claus Lauritz Clausen in Mitchell County, Iowa on December 4, 1853. In 1856, a log house was built by the congregation for use as a school and church. A stone schoolhouse was built in 1858, which was used for church services until the stone chu
