Eve Mahlab was born in Vienna, Austria, on 30 May 1937, the only child of Robert Dickstein and Gertrud (Trudy). Her maternal grandfather, Arthur Albers, was a leading businessman and a ‘towering figure’ in her family. In the following year, Austria was annexed by Nazi Germany.
