EN 50436 is a series of European Standards for ignition interlock devices on motor vehicles. An alcohol interlock consists of two main components: an instrument that measures breath alcohol via a mouthpiece inside the vehicle, and a control unit which controls the current supply to the vehicle's starter relay.
