text: The ship Earl of Zetland was a steel hull vessel registered on the UK's National Register of Historic Vessels. She was built in 1939 by Hall, Russell & Company in Aberdeen, Scotland, as a passenger vessel. Brought into service at the outset of WWII, she travelled over 100,000 miles and carried approximately 600,000 servicemen to and from the Orkney Islands. The vessel is believed to be one of many small ships involved in the evacuation of Dunkirk. Her previous names include Celtic Surveyor and L
