text: Earl of Cromer is a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom, held by members of the British branch of the Anglo-German Baring banking family. It was created in 1901 for Evelyn Baring, 1st Viscount Cromer, long time British Consul-General in Egypt. He had already been created Baron Cromer, of Cromer in the County of Norfolk, in 1892 and Viscount Cromer in 1899. At the time of his elevation to an Earl on 8 August 1901, he was also awarded the title Viscount Errington, of Hexham in Northumberlan
