text: Dundee East was a constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. Created for the 1950 general election, it elected one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first-past-the-post voting system. This was one of the safest SNP seats. Since 2005, Stewart Hosie of the Scottish National Party had served as the MP for the constituency. On 14 November 2014, Hosie was elected as Deputy Leader of the Scottish National Party, succeeding Nicola Sturgeon, who was elected as the party
