Developed as a subsonic carrier-capable attack jet-aircraft, the Douglas A-4 Skyhawk was extensively used for over 50 years by a number of nations. New Zealand purchased several Skyhawks, the first of which entered service with the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) in 1970. The aircraft went on to equip the RNZAF's Strike Wing for over 30 years, service with No. 75 Squadron and, from 1984, No. 2 Squadron.
