text: Djordje "Djoko" Popović-Daničar was a Serbian journalist who as editor of Sedmica (Weekly), Srpski Dnevnik, Danica (Morningstar) and Napredak (Progress) established its reputation and founded a tradition of independent journalism. He is credited for being the first Serbian to translate the works of Miguel de Cervantes. in 1889, he was a Serbian consul in Skoplje during the time of the Ottoman Empire.
