This enzyme belongs to the family of oxidoreductases, specifically those acting on the CH-OH group of donor with NAD+ or NADP+ as acceptor. The systematic name of this enzyme class is (R)-3,3-dimethylmalate:NAD+ oxidoreductase (decarboxylating).
