text: Professor David Nichol Sharp Kerr (1927–2014) was a British nephrologist. Kerr was born on 27 December 1927 in Hackney, London, England. He attended George Watson's Boys School, Edinburgh, and then the University of Edinburgh, where he obtained his MB ChB with Honours in 1951. He subsequently undertook an MSc in Anatomy at the University of Wisconsin. He undertook National Service as a surgeon-lieutenant with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve from 1953 to 1955.
