text: Daniel McBride Graham (1817–1888) was a Free Will Baptist pastor, abolitionist, writer, and inventor who served as the first president of Hillsdale College, serving from 1844 to 1848 and the fourth president from 1871 to 1874. Graham was born in 1817 in Milan, Ohio and worked on his family's farm. In 1843 he graduated from Oberlin College.
