Daisy May Bates, CBE was an Irish-Australian journalist, welfare worker and self-taught anthropologist who conducted fieldwork amongst several Indigenous nations in western and southern Australia. Some of the Ngaanyatjarra and Ngaatjatjarra people referred to Bates by the courtesy name Kabbarli "grandmother."
