Dúngal mac Amalgado was a King of Brega from the Uí Chonaing sept of Cnogba (Knowth) of the Síl nÁedo Sláine branch of the southern Ui Neill. He was the son of Amalgaid mac Congalaig and brother of Conaing mac Amalgado, previous kings. He ruled from 748 to 759. The Uí Chonaing had conquered the Ciannachta tribe of Brega, between the Boyne and the Delvin, in the reign of Cináed mac Írgalaig. However a section of them remained called the Ard Ciannachta between the Boyne and the Dee. In 749 Dúngal
