The Cypriot broadcaster CyBC internally selected their entry, which was the song "Thimame" written by John Vickers and Aristos Moschovakis, and was intended to be performed by Yiannis Dimitrou. Cyprus was drawn to performed second in the competition but on 12 March 1988, announced their withdrawal from the contest.
