text: Cuthbert Robert Blackett F.C.S., J.P., was a Victorian Government Analytical Chemist in colonial Australia. Blackett was the son of the Rev. C. R. Blackett, Independent minister at Southminster, England, where he was born 9 October 1831. Having served his time as a pharmaceutical chemist, he arrived in Melbourne in January 1853, and became a member of the first council of the Pharmaceutical Society, and ultimately its secretary and president.
