Cosmolabe Rock is the rock off the NW coast of northwest coast of Nelson Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica extending 120 m in southeast–northwest direction and 50 m wide. Its surface area is 0.23 ha. The vicinity was visited by early 19th century sealers. The feature is named after the cosmolabe, an instrument created by the French inventor and mathematician Jacques Besson to be used for navigation, surveying and cartography; in association with other names in the area deriving fr
