text: Clennon Washington King Sr. was a political activist, Tuskegee Institute student and chauffeur of Booker T. Washington. On August 18, 1918, in Milledgeville, Georgia, King married Margaret Allegra Slater, with whom he had seven sons, four of whom would earn both national and international recognition. He ran two local grocery stores and was a notable figure in Albany, Georgia. He helped to establish the local chapter of the NAACP. In the 1940s, he and his wife Allegra established The Swank Shop,
