He was born at Windlesham House School, now based near Washington, Sussex, but then based in Brighton, where his father was headmaster until his death in 1896. He attended the school between 1896 and 1902 under the headship of his mother, Grace Scott Malden. Scott-Malden's batting and bowling styles are unknown. He made two first-class appearances for Sussex in the 1920 County Championship against Somerset at the Recreation Ground, Bath,
