Charles Troedel was a German-born lithographic printer prominent in Melbourne during the late 19th century. He was apprenticed to his father at the age 13 and at the age of 24, emigrated to Melbourne, arriving in Williamstown on board the Great Britain in 1860. Trading as Troedel & Co, and from 1910 Troedel & Cooper, his company had close links with many well-known artists of that era. One of his apprentices was Arthur Streeton who was still working for him before being discovered by Tom Roberts
