Charles Richard Steele was an American Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics and of Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University. Steele was known for his work analyzing stresses and deformation of beams, membranes, and shells, and for modeling and analyzing the mechanics of the cochlea.
